WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange to Plead Guilty to Espionage
Deal Ends Years-Long Legal Battle
Assange Faces Freedom After Classified Document Publication
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is scheduled to plead guilty Wednesday in a deal that will resolve his long-standing legal battle with the United States.
Under the agreement, Assange will admit to violating the Espionage Act, a felony, in exchange for a sentence of time served. This would allow him to go free immediately, years after publishing classified documents that exposed alleged US war crimes and diplomatic misconduct.
