FHP Arrests Pensacola Woman for Navy Boulevard Crash
Woman Charged with DUI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has arrested a Pensacola woman in connection with a fatal crash on Navy Boulevard that killed a driver and injured two sailors. The crash occurred on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Charges Filed
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jessica Lynn Smith, has been charged with:
- DUI Manslaughter
- Vehicular Homicide
- Driving with a Suspended License
Smith is currently being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond.
Crash Details
According to the FHP, Smith was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry westbound on Navy Boulevard when she crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado head-on. The driver of the Silverado, a 52-year-old Pensacola man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two sailors riding in the Silverado, a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were injured in the crash. They were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation Ongoing
The FHP is continuing to investigate the crash. According to investigators, Smith showed signs of impairment at the scene. A blood alcohol content (BAC) test revealed she had a BAC of .17, which is more than twice the legal limit.
The FHP urges drivers to never operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Driving while impaired is a serious crime that can have deadly consequences.
