Goalkeepers Shatter Single-Season Records

Sporting Kansas City and the Colorado Rapids played to a 0-0 draw in front of 20,804 fans at Children's Mercy Park on Saturday night.

The draw extended Sporting KC's unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2) and moved them into a tie for sixth place in the Western Conference standings with 43 points.

The Rapids, meanwhile, extended their winless streak to four games (0-2-2) and remained in eighth place in the West with 40 points.

Goal-Less Match

The match was a tight affair throughout, with both teams having chances to win.

Sporting KC had the better of the chances in the first half, with Johnny Russell hitting the post in the 10th minute and Erik Thommy forcing a good save from William Yarbrough in the 25th minute.

The Rapids had their best chance of the first half in the 35th minute, but Diego Rubio's shot was saved by Tim Melia.

Record Breaking Night

The second half was more evenly matched, with both teams having chances to win.

Sporting KC had a great chance to take the lead in the 65th minute, but Alan Pulido's header was saved by Yarbrough.

The Rapids had a good chance to win it in the 80th minute, but Michael Barrios' shot was saved by Melia.

In the end, both teams had to settle for a point.

Goalkeeper heroics

The match was also notable for the performances of the two goalkeepers.

Melia made four saves for Sporting KC, while Yarbrough made five saves for the Rapids.

Both goalkeepers set new single-season records for their respective clubs.
