Terps Fall In Four Sets At LSU

Maryland Volleyball Loses First Match Of 2023 Season

Tigers Win 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22

The Maryland volleyball team dropped its first match of the 2023 season on Friday night, falling to LSU in four sets (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22) in the Maravich Center.

The Terps (0-1) were led by sophomore outside hitter Laila Ricks, who had 13 kills. Senior middle blocker Jada Gardner added 11 kills, and junior setter Sydney Dowler dished out 34 assists.

LSU (1-0) was led by senior outside hitter Taylor Bannister, who had 15 kills. Junior middle blocker Anita Anwusi added 13 kills, and sophomore setter Ella Larkin had 42 assists.

The first set was closely contested, with neither team leading by more than three points. The Terps had a 22-21 lead, but the Tigers scored the final four points of the set to win 25-22.

The second set was also close, but LSU pulled away late to win 25-21. The Tigers scored the final three points of the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Terps bounced back in the third set, winning 25-22. They led throughout the set and never trailed by more than two points.

The fourth set was another close one, but LSU ultimately won 25-22. The Tigers scored the final three points of the set to win the match.

The Terps will return to action on Saturday night when they face Southern Miss in the Maravich Center.
